FIFTH TORONTO SINFONIETTA CONCERTO COMPETITION 2010-2011

For the best performance of a classical or early romantic solo work with orchestra

THE PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION

  • To contribute to the professional development of young Canadian musicians under the age of 19 years.
  • To enable young musicians to compete for the unique opportunity to perform with the Toronto Sinfonietta, a professional orchestra, at the Gala Concert.

TORONTO SINFONIETTA CONCERTO COMPETITION IS AN ANNUAL EVENT

THE JURY
consists of prominent Toronto musicians and leading members of Toronto Sinfonietta:

  • Walter Buczynski, one of Canada’s most prolific and performed composers
  • Norbert Palej, a composer who generates “visceral excitement” (The Boston Globe) and University of Toronto professor
  • Bronson Kwan, Toronto Sinfonietta concertmaster and former Royal Conservatory faculty member
  • Alex Kats, pianist and teacher
  • Matthew Jaskiewicz, Toronto Sinfonietta music director and artistic director of the Competition

AGE CATEGORIES

  • under 16 years
  • 16 to 19 years

COMPETITION SCHEDULE

  • Application deadline: November 1, 2010
  • Auditions: December 1 – 5, 2010
  • Gala concert: February 26, 2011 at Isabel Bader Theatre
