For the best performance of a classical or early romantic solo work with orchestra
THE PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION
- To contribute to the professional development of young Canadian musicians under the age of 19 years.
- To enable young musicians to compete for the unique opportunity to perform with the Toronto Sinfonietta, a professional orchestra, at the Gala Concert.
TORONTO SINFONIETTA CONCERTO COMPETITION IS AN ANNUAL EVENT
THE JURY
consists of prominent Toronto musicians and leading members of Toronto Sinfonietta:
- Walter Buczynski, one of Canada’s most prolific and performed composers
- Norbert Palej, a composer who generates “visceral excitement” (The Boston Globe) and University of Toronto professor
- Bronson Kwan, Toronto Sinfonietta concertmaster and former Royal Conservatory faculty member
- Alex Kats, pianist and teacher
- Matthew Jaskiewicz, Toronto Sinfonietta music director and artistic director of the Competition
AGE CATEGORIES
- under 16 years
- 16 to 19 years
COMPETITION SCHEDULE
- Application deadline: November 1, 2010
- Auditions: December 1 - 5, 2010
- Gala concert: February 26, 2011 at Isabel Bader Theatre
